Kendrapara, May 25: A long-standing land dispute allegedly turned fatal after a man was beaten to death with a stone by his nephew in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Sunday night. The incident took place at Saantasahi, barely 100 metres from Kendrapara Town Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Subash Barik of Saantasahi. Following the incident, family members lodged a complaint against eight persons, while police have detained five individuals for questioning.

According to sources, Subash Barik and his relative nephew Himanshu Barik had been embroiled in a land dispute for a long time, with multiple complaints previously filed at the police station.

On Sunday night at around 10 pm, Subas was returning home from work when an argument reportedly broke out near his house. As the altercation intensified, Himanshu allegedly attacked Subas with a large stone lying nearby, critically injuring him.

Family members immediately rushed Subas to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A scientific team visited the spot on Monday and seized materials allegedly used in the crime as part of the investigation. Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria also visited the scene and reviewed the situation.
