Kolkata, September 22: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sent a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raising concerns over what she termed a "man-made" flood in South Bengal.
The flood, according to her, was caused by the "abnormally heavy" release of water from the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) reservoirs located in Jharkhand.
In her letter dated September 21, Banerjee criticized the central government's approach, alleging that water management decisions were made unilaterally by the Central Water Commission and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, without proper consultation with West Bengal's authorities.
She emphasized that the sudden release of water from the DVC reservoirs, which lasted for nine hours, was initiated with only 3.5 hours' notice, leaving insufficient time for disaster preparedness.
Banerjee reiterated her earlier requests and urged the Prime Minister to personally intervene in addressing the issue, following up on her previous letter dated September 20, 2024.
