Malkangiri, July 14: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Malkangiri Town Police seized a mini truck carrying around 500 kg (five quintals) of marijuana that was allegedly being smuggled from Odisha's Malkangiri district to neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
Police said the smugglers used a chicken transport vehicle as a cover, concealing the contraband inside the truck instead of poultry. The seized marijuana is estimated to be worth more than ₹1 crore in the illegal market.
Two accused from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Kamal Hasan and Vimal Kumar, have been arrested in connection with the case. Police have launched a search to trace four other persons suspected to be involved in the interstate smuggling network.
Further investigation is underway.
