Bhubaneswar, Aug 1: In a major burglary that has raised concerns over security in the state capital, unidentified miscreants allegedly stole valuables worth more than ₹2 crore from the residence of a builder in the Laxmisagar area late on Friday night.

According to police, the burglars broke into the house of builder Pritam Jena by forcing open the main entrance before ransacking the premises. They allegedly decamped with gold jewellery, cash, luxury watches and a diamond-studded bracelet.

In an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, the accused also took away the hard disk of the CCTV surveillance system installed at the residence before fleeing the spot. The burglary is suspected to have taken place between 10 pm and 11 pm.

On receiving information, a team from Laxmisagar Police Station reached the scene and initiated an investigation. Police are examining all possible leads to identify the accused and recover the stolen valuables.

The incident has once again sparked concerns over the increasing number of property crimes in the Commissionerate Police jurisdiction, with residents questioning how such a high-value burglary could occur despite regular police patrolling. Further investigation is underway.
