Bhubaneswar, July 26: In a significant move to uplift the lives of sanitation workers, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday announced a comprehensive welfare package under the 'Garima' initiative, launched at Loka Seva Bhavan.
As part of the announcement, all sanitation workers across the state will be covered under a life insurance scheme worth ₹10 lakh. In the unfortunate event of death while on duty, their families will be entitled to a compensation of ₹30 lakh, a major step aimed at acknowledging their risk and dedication.
The Chief Minister also declared that every sanitation worker would be provided with a mobile phone by the state government to improve communication and access to services. Furthermore, under the Urban PM Awas Yojana, eligible sanitation workers will receive pucca houses with proper roofing, ensuring them dignified living conditions.
The initiative reaffirms the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of frontline sanitation staff.
