
Lucknow, Oct 12: In a horrific incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five men.Police on Sunday said that two accused in the case have been arrested and efforts are on to trace and nab the remaining culprits.
According to sources, the victim left home around 12 p.m. on Saturday to visit her sister and was riding on a motorcycle with an acquaintance. The dup stopped near a mango orchard when five men approached them and beat the acquaintance before taking turns to rape the minor girl.
Speaking about the case, DCP South Nipun Agarwal said that late on October 11, Banthra Police received information about a girl being raped by a group of men. He stated that an FIR was immediately registered based on a complaint from the victim’s father, and a team was formed to arrest the accused.
He stated that late Saturday night, a police team was conducting checks near Harauni railway station when two individuals on a motorcycle were signaled to stop. However, the suspects opened fire on the police. In retaliation, the police returned fire, injuring one of the accused in the leg. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment.
During interrogation, he was identified as Lalit Kashyap, one of the accused in the case. Agarwal added that Kashyap admitted to having been jailed previously in cases related to gambling and theft.
He added that one person had escaped from the scene and efforts were underway to arrest him, with the combing operation still ongoing. He also mentioned that a second team had arrested 20-year-old Miraj, the second-named accused in the incident, nearby the railway station.
The police team is currently searching for three other individuals who remain at large.
