Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that a low-pressure area has formed over the central parts of the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
As per the Met Department, the low-pressure area formed at 5:30 pm on Thursday and is expected to move in a west-northwest direction and intensify into a depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh, by today (September 26).
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The low-pressure system is likely to cross the South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh coasts around the morning of September 27.
Several districts in Odisha — including Malkangiri, Gajapati, Koraput, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh — are likely to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms under the influence of the system.
Meanwhile, the regional weather centre has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along and off the Odisha coast and over the North Bay of Bengal.
