Bhubaneswar, June 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that a low pressure area has formed over Southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.

According to the Met department, the weather system developed early this morning at around 5:30. It is expected to intensify further within the next 24 hours and move in west-northwestward direction.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall is likely to lash Odisha over the next three days. The weather system is likely to create favorable conditions for southwest monsoon to strengthen again and advance further into more areas of Odisha and neighboring regions of Chhattisgarh.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across several parts of the state. Districts including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rain on Tuesday. Wind speeds in some areas may reach between 30 and 40 kmph.

Weather experts say that rainfall in Odisha could become heavier and more widespread as the monsoon strengthens. The IMD has advised people in risk-prone areas to stay alert and avoid low-lying or waterlogged places.

Rainfall is expected to continue until June 19, with a chance of very heavy rain in some isolated areas. Authorities have been told to stay ready in case of problems caused by heavy rain and strong winds.
