New Delhi, July 12: The Ministry of Education on Friday issued advisory to the state counterparts to ensure safe and secured diets to the school students.
The advisory came up today following an incident took place in a Telangana –based model school where a lizard was found from the Upama dish, served to the students.
Having concerned over recent media reports about a lizard found in the Upma at the Telangana Model School, the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India took serious note of the situation.
The Education Ministry in its advisory said, “It is reiterated that PM POSHAN Scheme provides hot cooked midday meal in schools and all the States/UTs have been advised to take appropriate steps to ensure safety norms and provide properly cooked food for the students”.
On the other hand, the State Government of Telangana informed that the incident happened in the Hostel of Model School of Telangana Government was accidental.The State Government under its own scheme provides breakfast to Model Schools and is not covered under the PM POSHAN Scheme.
The State Government also informed the MoE that they have taken serious action against the concerned officials and warned them to be extra careful while serving food to the students.
