Liver transplant yet to begin at SCB Hospital after 10 years preparation

Cuttack, Jan 30: The much awaited liver transplant surgery is yet to begin at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after 10 years of preparation from 2014.

Five health secretaries, four directors of the Medical Education and Training (DMET), six superintendents of the SCBMCH and two HODs have changed during the last 10 years. Besides, over 200 preparation meetings and around 100 review meetings have been held during this period.

The SCBMCH had set December 2023 deadline to start liver transplant surgery in the premier healthcare centre, but in-vain.

The modular operation theatre (OT) needed for liver transplantation is yet to be completed that was targeted to be completed by October end or November first week last year.

Besides, the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL) is yaet to provide many high-end machineries used in the liver transplant surgery procedure.

After setting up of the OT, the doctors from Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad will come here and approve for transplant after review as per the MoU signed with the institute by the Odisha government.
