Puri, April 2: Legendary Odia devotional singer Shantilata Barik Chhotray’s mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honours at Swargadwar here in Puri on Tuesday.
Sources said, Barik’s mortal remains were taken to Puri Swargadwar from her Bhubaneswar residence in the morning. Among her kith and kin, her last rites were performed here wherein the Puri district administration and police accorded her full state hono
it was seen that family members along with a score of Barik’s disciples echoed favourite bhajans sung by Shantilata beside her pyre to bid adieu to the bhajan queen.
Worth mentioning, Shantilata who was surviving with cancer, passed away on Monday at 63 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
