Bhubaneswar, March 18: Lack of infrastructure is causing problem to Odisha government's push for electronic Vehicles (EV) in the state.
As per available data, the state has over 198 charging stations for EVs with the highest of 22 in Khordha followed by 18 in Ganjam. The capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, has 19 public charging stations.
In absence of required infrastructure for EVs in public places, people largely depend on in-house facilities to charge their vehicles.
EV owners, especially two-wheeler owners are unable to travel long distances out of the city over the fear that the charge may run out and they get stranded midway.
The state is witnessing high sale of e-scooters which have around 150 km running capacity in one charge following which people fear to go long distances, said experts. Besides, the state is registering good sale of three-wheelers and four-wheelers in EV segment. People are charging e-scooters in house and travelling in the city only for daily activities. There is a need for development of charging infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas and highways across the state to boost EV sale, opined experts.
