Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: Odisha’s new film ‘Maliput Melodies’, inspired by the simple yet vibrant life of Koraput, has added another international honour to its growing list of achievements.

The Odia film received the Bronze Award in the Best Feature Film category at the SCA International Film Festival in Los Angeles on August 5, marking another significant milestone in its international journey.

Produced under the banner of Kaustav Dream Works Studios, the film has already earned a U/A certificate and is scheduled to hit theatres across Odisha on September 18.

‘Maliput Melodies’ was earlier selected in the Indian Panorama Feature Film category at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI-E 2025) in Goa. It was the only Odia film selected in the category from among 1,098 films submitted from across the country.

The film was later screened at the Habitat Film Festival 2026 in New Delhi and at the National Indian Film Festival in Brisbane, Australia, on May 16, 2026.

Set against the rural landscape of Koraput, the film captures the region’s nature, traditions, language, festivals, music and everyday life. The village itself becomes an important part of the story, giving the film a strong sense of place and authenticity.

Adding to its uniqueness, around 75 per cent of the cast comprises local village talent, while the remaining actors are largely theatre artists. The film has been directed by emerging filmmaker Bishal Pattnaik, with the story written by Sudhakar Pattnaik and music composed by Tosh Nanda.

Veteran producer Koushik Das, co-producers Ram Pattanayak and Kaustav Das, and the entire creative team have contributed to the film’s journey from a local Koraput story to an internationally recognised Odia production.

With its growing presence at film festivals in India and abroad, Maliput Melodies is now set to bring its story of Koraput, its people and their dreams to audiences across Odisha.
