Cuttack, Feb 9: In the first such childbirth at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack, a 29-year-old woman, who underwent a kidney transplant five years ago, gave birth to a healthy girl on Thursday.
According to reports, Jagyasini Jena of Khaira area in Balasore district was suffering from prolonged kidney disease and underwent transplant in 2019 following which she has been leading a normal life.
Women face irregular menstrual cycle following kidney disease and it gets normal slowly after transplant. Jagyasini's menstrual cycle got normal towards the end of 2020 after kidney transplant. She got married in 2021 and was under supervision of doctors. She was undergoing treatment to conceive and finally she got pregnant, said Dr Aruna Acharya, HOD of nephrology department, SCBMCH.
Her pregnancy was high risk. Fortunately, her kidney function remained normal throughout the pregnancy. A C-section was performed by Dr Lucy Das, senior gynaecologist and former superintendent of SCBMCH, under the supervision of a team of doctors from various departments and she delivered a female baby. Health condition of both the mother and child is good, said doctors.
