Puri, Sept 4: The sacred Kartika Brata is set to commence on October 7, and the Odisha government has announced a range of free facilities for Habishyalis- devout women who observe the month-long ritual-in Puri. Arrangements include free accommodation, darshan of Lord Jagannath, Mahaprasad, and cultural programmes like evening pravachan (discourses), bhajans, and pala performances.
To ensure the smooth execution of these services, the district administration has begun preparatory work. A review meeting chaired by Puri District Collector Dibyajyoti Parida was held on Wednesday at the Circuit House to discuss planning and logistics.
As per the Collector's directives, responsibilities have been allocated to officials across departments to oversee key areas- including safe lodging, temple access, transportation, healthcare, and Mahaprasad distribution. In line with last year’s process, online registration will be mandatory for Habishyalis intending to stay in Shrikshetra during Kartika month. The administration will issue detailed guidelines soon.
Last year, accommodation was provided at Brundabati Nibas, Akshay Patra Kotha, Bagala Dharmashala Kotha, Bagedia Dharmashala, and Mochisahi Kalyan Mandap. The same facilities are being considered again this year.
The meeting was attended by the Additional District Magistrate, Chief Development Officer (Zilla Parishad), Sub-Collectors, CDMO, Executive Officer of Puri Municipality, ASP, and officials from the Public Works Department.
