Bargarh, October 14: The world-famous Bargarh Dhanu Yatra will commence on January 12, 2027, bringing the mythological city of Mathura under the rule of King Kansa. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav Committee chaired by Bargarh District Collector Aditya Goyal on Tuesday.
The 2027 edition of the grand theatrical festival will continue until January 24, transforming Bargarh into the mythological city of Mathura. The festival, renowned as the world's largest open-air theatre, will witness artists enact episodes from the life of Lord Krishna and the reign of the tyrannical King Kansa.
During the festival, Bargarh will come alive with dramatic performances, as the roar and laughter of Kansa echo across the town. The open-air theatrical extravaganza attracts large numbers of visitors and showcases Odisha's rich cultural heritage.
As in previous years, an artist selection process will also be conducted to choose the actor who will portray King Kansa in the upcoming edition of the festival.
