Bengaluru, July 15: An FIR has been registered against Kannada actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty over alleged "unauthorised usage" of a music company's two songs in his movie "Bachelor Party'', police said on Monday. The complaint, filed by Naveen Kumar of MRT Music at Yeshwanthapura police station, accuses Shetty and his production house of using the songs "Gaalimathu" and "Nyaya Ellide" without obtaining proper permissions.
The police have issued a notice to Shetty regarding the matter. As of now, there has been no response from Shetty or his team regarding these allegations. The film, directed by Abhijit Mahesh and released on January 26 this year, was produced under Shetty's company, "Paramvah Studios."
In the FIR, Kumar alleges that discussions regarding the use of these songs took place in January, but an agreement was not reached. The complaint asserts that Shetty used the songs in the film without purchasing the necessary broadcast and ownership rights, thus violating the Copyright Act.
A senior police officer stated, "Based on the complaint, we registered a case under the Copyright Act on June 24 against the actor. A notice has been sent to him, and once he returns from his out-of-state shoot, we will take his detailed statement. The investigation is currently ongoing."
The situation continues to develop as the investigation progresses.
