Phulbani, Oct 20: Proving that determination, dedication and a clear goal can overcome every obstacle, Monalisa Sahu, a talented young woman from Dandima village in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, has brought pride to the state by securing 16th rank at the all-India level in the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination. She has been selected for the post of Hydrogeologist, marking a significant achievement for her family and the region.

What makes her success particularly inspiring is that she prepared for the prestigious national-level examination without enrolling in any reputed or expensive coaching institute. Instead, she relied on self-study and made effective use of digital platforms, the internet and online study materials to achieve her goal.

From a village school to national-level success

Monalisa hails from Dandima village under Sraniketa Gram Panchayat in Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district, popularly known as the “Kashmir of Odisha”. Known for her academic excellence and calm nature since childhood, she began her education at a primary school in her native village.

After completing her primary education, she studied Classes VI and VII in Daspalla, Nayagarh district, before attending the renowned Radhakanta Girls’ High School in Odagaon, Nayagarh, from Classes VIII to X.

Following her matriculation, she moved to Bhubaneswar to pursue her higher secondary education in science at Rama Devi Women’s College. She subsequently completed her undergraduate studies and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Geology at the prestigious Khallikote College in Berhampur.

Her academic achievements were further highlighted when she topped her university in the M.Sc. examination and won a gold medal. This accomplishment strengthened her determination to pursue higher goals in her academic and professional journey.

At a time when many aspirants spend lakhs of rupees on coaching for competitive examinations, Monalisa continued her preparation from home with confidence and dedication.

She collected syllabus-related information, previous years’ question papers and study guidance through the internet and various social media platforms. Through consistent effort, patience and disciplined preparation, she successfully cleared one of the country’s prestigious competitive examinations.

Emphasising the importance of a systematic approach to preparation, Monalisa said that regularity, patience and the proper use of digital resources could make even challenging examinations achievable.

Family support played a crucial role

Monalisa credited her remarkable achievement to the constant support and blessings of her parents, Biswanath Sahu and Mamata Sahu.

She also acknowledged the encouragement she received from her teachers, brother, maternal uncle, aunt and friends, saying their support had continually motivated her to move forward and remain focused on her goal.

Monalisa Sahu’s achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Kandhamal district and the state of Odisha.
