Bhubaneswar: In bid to promote and popularise traditional sports during the Raja festival, Bichitra Charitable Trust will organise a Kabaddi and Tug of War Championship from June 13 to 16. The four-day event will be held at the Madanpur High School Ground on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Both men's and women's teams will participate in the Kabaddi and Tug of War competitions. A total of 16 teams will compete in each discipline.
In Kabaddi, teams from Odisha including Jatin, One Voice, Jay Odisha Aska, Pattnaik, GNSO, Sambalpur, KIIT, Rainbow, Nuapada, Kalinga Stadium and RSP will take part, along with teams from Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Bhopal and Kolkata Police. An equal number of teams will participate in the Tug of War event.
The champion team in the men's category will receive a cash prize of ₹50,000, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹30,000. In the women's category, the champion team will receive ₹30,000 and the runners-up ₹20,000. Winning teams will also be awarded trophies.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Subhadranka Badagrahi Ramachandra Das Mahapatra, Bichitra Charitable Trust Convener Ardhendu Das, Madanpur Panchayat Raja Mahotsav Committee President Prof. Chhenu Sekhar Pattnaik, Trust General Secretary Ajaya Sahu, Maharana Birabar Government High School Headmaster Kahnucharan Mishra, former AIIMS Director of Accounts Gyanaranjan Sahu, and former footballer Pradipta Kumar Baliarsingh were present.
