Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 12: Odisha defeated Chhattisgarh by a convincing 4-2 margin to post their first win in Group-D, in the ongoing Junior Girls' National Football Championship 2024-25, here on Monday.
In their campaign opener, Odisha dominated the entire match against Chhattisgarh by scoring three vital goals in the first half and then netting another in the second half.
Odisha captain and forward Thandamoni Baskey scored three goals in 14th, 43rd and 56th minutes of the match. Rupashree Munda, the other attacking Odisha forward joined the party by netting her maiden goal of the tournament in the 20th minute.
Chhattisgarh girls though were completely overpowered by Odisha in the first half, but tried to play attacking soccer in the second half. After conceding four goals, they decided to resort to attacking soccer with all their might.
Their midfielder Hembati Baghel scored two goals in the 67th and 81st minutes. But by then, Odisha had almost taken the match to their control with still two goals lead.
Odisha girls will play Delhi on August 14 and then take on Mizoram on August 16.
