Puri, December 6: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi on Saturday announced a consumer-owned Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model under PM Surya Ghar for installing 1.5 lakh rooftop solar systems of 1 kW each in Odisha.
“I announce the approval of a consumer-owned Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model under PM Surya Ghar for installing 1.5 lakh rooftop solar systems of 1 kW each in the State. This will benefit nearly 7-8 lakhs of people, especially from economically weaker households in Odisha,” said Joshi.
Gracing the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Puri, Joshi highlighted India's historic clean energy expansion and remarkable solar capacity growth in the country and said 1.5 lakh rooftop solar units will be provided under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model.
The Minister said that Odisha is already demonstrating strong clean energy adoption. With over 3.1 GW of installed renewable capacity, clean energy now accounts for more than 34 percent of the State’s total installed power capacity. Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, 1.6 lakh households have applied for rooftop solar, over 23,000 installations have been completed, and more than 19,200 families have received subsidies exceeding Rs 147 crore directly into their bank accounts.
“Our Country has witnessed a remarkable solar capacity growth, which surged from 2.8 GW to approximately 130 GW in just 11 years. This impressive progress was further marked by achieving the highest-ever non-fossil capacity addition during the current fiscal year,” said Joshi.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also graced the occasion and said, “Odisha stands fully aligned with this national vision.”
“With our rich natural resources, strategic location, and world-class infrastructure, we are committed to accelerating the clean energy transition. I reiterated our steadfast commitment to Vision 2036 and 2047, which place sustainable development and green energy at the core of our growth roadmap. Odisha offers a progressive industrial ecosystem and vast potential in solar, wind, and hydropower, positioning us as a balanced and reliable energy hub for the nation,” said the Chief Minister.
“The insightful deliberations with Ministers and distinguished global delegates on the theme ‘Sufficiency, Balance, and Innovation’ were immensely enriching. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is moving swiftly towards energy self-reliance and a Net Zero future,” said Majhi.
