Bhubaneswar, June 2: In a major boost to wildlife conservation in Odisha, tigress Jinnat has given birth to four healthy cubs at the renowned Similipal Tiger Reserve, bringing cheer to wildlife enthusiasts and forest officials as well.
According to forest department sources, Jinnat delivered the cubs on May 28. The birth is being seen as a significant milestone in the ongoing tiger conservation programme in Similipal, one of India’s most important tiger habitats.
Forest officials have intensified monitoring of the tigress and her newborn cubs to ensure their safety. Special protection measures have also been put in place to safeguard the family from any potential threats within the reserve.
Jinnat was translocated to Similipal from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in November 2024 as part of efforts to strengthen the tiger population and improve genetic diversity within the reserve. Since her relocation, the Forest Department has been closely tracking her movements and health.
The successful birth of four cubs is being viewed as a major achievement for Odisha’s wildlife management authorities and a positive indicator of the adaptability of translocated big cats in their new habitat.
Conservationists believe the development will further strengthen Similipal’s status as a thriving tiger landscape and provide fresh momentum to ongoing efforts aimed at increasing the tiger population in the reserve.
The arrival of the four cubs not only marks a personal milestone for Jinnat but also represents a hopeful chapter in Odisha’s long-term wildlife conservation journey.
