Ryan ten Doeschate leaves Indian coaching role for KKR

Ryan ten Doeschate has officially stepped down from his position as assistant coach of the Indian cricket team following recent series defeats in England and Ireland. Reports confirm that he informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision while still in the UK. His initial contract with the national board naturally concluded earlier this month, running exactly from July 2024 to mid-July 2026. He initially joined the national support staff as a trusted deputy when Gautam Gambhir took over from Rahul Dravid right after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup.

During his time with the team, India found great success in limited-overs matches. The squad proudly lifted the 2025 Asia Cup and successfully defended their title at the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. However, the red-ball team struggled significantly during this same exact timeframe. India lost the highly contested Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. They also suffered harsh home series defeats, dropping a 3-0 series against New Zealand and losing 2-0 to South Africa. These difficult results happened while the team went through a tough transition phase in the longest format.

Returning To Franchise Duties

Sources state that ten Doeschate will now return to the Indian Premier League to work with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He shares a very long history with this specific franchise. Working as a player, he helped KKR win IPL championships in 2012 and 2014. He came back as their fielding coach in 2022 and stayed until 2024, celebrating another title win. This upcoming move will reunite him with Abhishek Nayar, another former KKR assistant coach who previously worked alongside him in the national team setup
