Rain Abandons SRH vs DC Match

Persistent rain in Hyderabad forced the abandonment of the Indian Premier League match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday, May 5th, and impacted  impacting the playoff permutation. The washout eliminated Sunrisers Hyderabad while Delhi Capitals gained a valuable point for their pursuit to finish in the top four.

Delhi Capitals Struggle continued

Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Delhi Capitals found conditions challenging on a grass-free surface at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium that offered grip and variable bounce. SRH captain Pat Cummins exploited these conditions superbly, taking the new ball himself and bowled an exceptional opening spell. He dismissed Karun Nair with the first ball and accounted for two more top-order batsmen, finishing with figures of 3 for 19. Supported by Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel, SRH reduced DC to a precarious 29 for 5 in the eighth over.

Stubbs and Ashutosh face saving effort

Facing a potential collapse, Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma orchestrated a crucial recovery for Delhi Capitals. Stubbs anchored the innings with an unbeaten 41 off 36 balls. Ashutosh Sharma, introduced as an Impact Player, provided much-needed impetus, scoring 41 runs off just 26 deliveries, including three sixes. Their 66-run partnership for the seventh wicket helped DC post a respectable, albeit below-par, total of 133 for 7 in their 20 overs.

Rain played the Spoil Sport

Rain began shortly after the conclusion of Delhi's innings and intensified, preventing the Sunrisers Hyderabad chase from commencing. Despite efforts from the ground staff, the outfield conditions could not be made suitable for play before the official cut-off time, leading to the match being called off as a 'No Result'.

The abandonment due to weather resulted in both teams sharing one point each. This single point was crucial for Delhi Capitals (with 13 points from 11 games) for the playoffs.  This single point earned by Sunrisers Hyderabad was not enough for their playoff pursuits.
