Sambalpur, Feb 27: Mallika Haripal, the wife of renowned Sambalpuri folk singer Jitendra Haripal, passed away today at the age of 69. She had been battling health issues for the past two years and succumbed to her illness while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Burla, Odisha’s Sambalpur district.

Mallika is survived by her husband Jitendra, their two sons Paras and Pravat, daughters-in-law Jhunu and Minu, and grandchildren.

The news of her passing has left the local community in mourning, with many artists, singers, and admirers of Jitendra Haripal visiting their residence to offer their condolences and pay their last respects to the departed soul.

Jitendra Haripal, a household name in Odisha and beyond, is best known for his iconic rendition of the Sambalpuri cult song ‘Rangabati’ in the 1970s. His contribution to music was recognised with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2017, honouring his exceptional work in promoting and preserving Sambalpuri folk music.
