Cuttack, Mar 17: Renowned litterateur Girijakumar Baliyarsingh’s poetry collection Padapurana has been selected for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award 2025.

Sources from the Sahitya Akademi confirm that the jury unanimously chose Padapurana from a list of 10 shortlisted books.

Published in 2020, Padapurana has been recognized in the poetry category. The Sahitya Akademi Award is presented annually in 24 Indian languages, and for 2025, the awards span multiple genres, including eight poetry collections, four novels, six short story collections, two essays, one work of literary criticism, one autobiography, and two memoirs.

Each award recipient will receive an engraved copper plaque, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh. The award ceremony is scheduled for March 31, 2026, in New Delhi.

The selection process for the 2025 awards began in January 2025, following an open advertisement issued on January 30, 2025.
