Lovlina Borgohain claims silver to achieve rare boxing milestone

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain secured her place in sports history this Saturday by winning a silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She fought hard in the women’s 75kg final but lost via a split 1-4 decision to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree. With this podium finish, she becomes only the third Indian boxer to win medals across the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Vijender Singh first set this benchmark, collecting one Olympic, two Asian Games, and three Commonwealth Games medals during his career. MC Mary Kom soon followed with her own legendary haul, securing one Olympic, one Commonwealth, and two Asian Games medals. Now, Borgohain adds her Glasgow silver to her Tokyo Olympics bronze and Asian Games silver. Winning medals at all three premier multi-sport events highlights a rare level of sustained dominance in amateur boxing over several years.

India Dominates Glasgow Ring

This latest silver marks the seventh boxing medal for India at the ongoing Glasgow games. Female fighters have delivered exceptional results for the nation, securing five gold medals already. Preeti Pawar claimed gold in the 54kg division, while Jaismine Lamboria triumphed in the 57kg weight class. Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) also won their respective championship fights.

On the men's side, Jadumani Singh claimed a hard-fought silver in the 55kg category. He lost a 0-5 decision to Australia’s Jye Dixon after initially winning the first round 3-2. India still holds strong opportunities to increase its overall gold count. Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg), and Narender Berwal (+90kg) are all preparing for their highly anticipated gold medal matches.
