Indian Air Force States 'Operation Sindoor' Remains Ongoing Despite Ceasefire

The Indian Air Force (IAF) gave a statement today, (Sunday, May 11th), that "Operation Sindoor," its counter-offensive initiated following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, is still in progress. This declaration comes just one day after both India and Pakistan had publicly announced a ceasefire, creating a degree of uncertainty regarding the current de-escalation efforts, particularly as fresh cross-border hostilities have been reported.

IAF Statement on 'Operation Sindoor'

In an official communication via its social media handle on X, the IAF stated, "The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully executed its assigned tasks in Operation Sindoor, with precision and professionalism. Operations were conducted in a deliberate and discreet manner, aligned with National Objectives." Crucially, the statement added, "Since the Operations are still ongoing, a detailed briefing will be conducted in due course. The IAF urges all to refrain from speculation and dissemination of unverified information."

Fragile Ceasefire amid Renewed Hostilities

This announcement follows Saturday's agreement between New Delhi and Islamabad to cease hostilities, a development reportedly facilitated by the United States. However, reports indicate that this fragile truce was quickly challenged. Within hours of the ceasefire, Pakistani forces allegedly resumed heavy shelling along the International Border in the Rajouri sector and near Srinagar. Additionally, officials reported sighting several drones, with Indian air defence systems reportedly downing at least four near Army headquarters. Explosions were also heard in Srinagar and Baramulla on Saturday evening, prompting concern from local leaders.

"Operation Sindoor" was launched by India earlier in the week, targeting nine alleged terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir between May 6th and 7th using precision strikes, reportedly including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.

The Indian Air Force's assertion that "Operation Sindoor" continues, despite the preceding ceasefire announcement, coupled with reports of renewed cross-border aggression by Pakistan, points to a highly fluid and volatile security situation. While the IAF has indicated successful execution of its assigned tasks and asked the public to await for official briefings rather than relying on speculation as events unfold.
