Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: A young man was rescued in an unconscious and injured condition from a hotel room in Bhubaneswar after allegedly attempting suicide, following a farewell video he posted on Facebook that triggered panic among his family members.
According to police, the youth uploaded a video apologising to his father and saying that he was leaving the world forever. Soon after posting the video, he switched off his mobile phone, making it difficult for his family to contact him.
The video quickly went viral and reached his relatives, who launched a frantic search for him across the city. After failing to trace him, the family approached Dhauli Police Station around 8 pm on Tuesday, pleading with officers to help find him.
Police immediately began efforts to track his location. Since the phone was switched off, investigators could only obtain the last known location, which was in Bhubaneswar.
A search team led by Inspector Smrutiranjan Mohanty, along with SI Radhaballabh Behera and ASI Prabir Kumar Lenka, searched the area and checked several hotels. The youth was eventually found inside a hotel room near Chintamaniswar Temple under Laxmisagar Police Station limits.
He was discovered in a blood-soaked and unconscious condition and was rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment. His condition is currently under medical observation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the alleged suicide attempt may have been linked to a personal relationship issue, though police said the exact reason is yet to be confirmed.
The timely intervention by the police and the swift search operation helped save the youth’s life, officials said.
