Berhampur, March 28: A young woman sustained severe burn injuries after allegedly pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself on fire in Ganjam district. She has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition. The reason behind the incident remains unclear, and police have initiated an investigation.
According to reports, the incident took place in Betnai village under Kotinada police limits. The woman, identified as Dibyajyoti Rana, allegedly attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on her body and setting herself ablaze.
On noticing the fire, family members rushed her to Aska hospital for initial treatment. Due to the seriousness of her condition, she was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Sources said that nearly 60 percent of her body has been burnt in the incident.
Police have started an inquiry into the matter, and the exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
