Berhampur, Jul 15:A young woman died after allegedly setting herself on fire at Shantinagar Lane-5 under the Badabazar police station limits in Odisha's Berhampur on Tuesday.

According to preliminary reports, the woman allegedly poured kerosene over herself and set herself ablaze, sustaining critical burn injuries.

She was initially rushed to a local hospital before doctors referred her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment due to the severity of her condition.

However, she succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to the hospital.

The exact reason behind the alleged self-immolation is yet to be established.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident and are examining all possible angles.
