Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: In a horrifying incident, a woman maize hawker was attacked and hacked by miscreants in Bhubaneswar on Thursday evening for refusing to pay extortion money. The incident occurred on NH-16 near Satsang Vihar, where the woman, identified as Mita, was selling maize by the roadside.

Eyewitnesses reported that a group of miscreants approached Mita and demanded money from her. When she refused to pay, explaining that she earns her living by working hard to support her family, the miscreants became furious. They verbally abused her before one of them attacked her with a sharp weapon. Mita sustained serious injuries to her right shoulder and hand.

The attackers fled the scene before anyone could intervene. Upon receiving information, police from the Saheed Nagar Police Station arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation. However, they have not yet identified the attackers.

Mita's family members quickly reached the scene, filed a complaint, and took her to the hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have assured that they are doing their best to catch the culprits responsible for the brutal attack.
