Bhubaneswar, Jul 7: Two persons, including a woman, sustained serious injuries after being allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants with a knife near Old Station Bazar Square under the Laxmisagar police station limits in Bhubaneswar late Monday night.
One of the injured has been identified as Uday Kiran, a betel shop owner. The woman was reportedly attacked while attempting to rescue Kiran during the assault.
According to police sources, the incident occurred when Kiran was closing his shop and heading home. He was allegedly intercepted and attacked by the miscreants. Hearing his cries for help, the woman rushed to intervene but was also assaulted by the accused.
Both victims sustained severe head injuries in the attack and were immediately shifted to Capital Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
On receiving information, a team from Laxmisagar Police Station reached the spot and launched an investigation. Police have begun examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailants and ascertain the sequence of events.
Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused. Further investigation into the incident is in progress.
