Two arrested in Bhubaneswar for alleged illegal cow slaughter & beef sale; 15 Kg meat seized

Bhubaneswar, June 18: In a major crackdown on alleged illegal cow slaughter and beef trade in the capital city, the Commissionerate Police arrested two persons during a raid conducted by Khandagiri Police and seized around 15 kilograms of suspected beef.

According to police sources, credible information was received regarding the illegal slaughter of cattle and sale of beef in the Jadupur area. Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Khiroda Chandra Pradhan conducted a raid at the location.

During the operation, three individuals, identified as Kisu alias Israhil Khan,Azim Uddin, and another associate, were allegedly found at the spot. On noticing the police, they reportedly attempted to flee. However, police succeeded in apprehending Kisu alias Israhil Khan and Azim Uddin, while the third suspect managed to escape.

During interrogation, the arrested individuals allegedly admitted to their involvement in the illegal slaughter of cattle and the sale of beef, police said.

A search of the premises led to the seizure of approximately 15 kilograms of suspected beeffrom a container freezer located outside the house. The seized meat has been sent to the Veterinary Department for scientific examination and confirmation of its origin.

Police further alleged that during the seizure process, the accused obstructed government officials from performing their duties and also resorted to abusive language and threats against the police personnel.

A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused. Further investigation into the matter is continuing.
