Chennai, May 5:Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor-politician Vijay continued his post-election engagements on Tuesday by visiting key memorials of social reformers in Tamil Nadu. A day after his party secured a near-majority in the state assembly, Vijay paid respects by garlanding the statues of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

Political observers see the gesture as an effort to associate with Dravidian and social justice ideals. The visit comes amid ongoing discussions on social media regarding the state’s evolving political landscape. Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan shared a post on X, noting that electoral results represent only one aspect of democratic politics. He praised DMK leader M. K. Stalin, stating that he “is not one to exult in victory or wilt in defeat” and will continue to “fight and win again.”

Earlier in the day, Vijay and other senior TVK leaders, including General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna, convened at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai. As a newcomer in Tamil Nadu politics, TVK secured 108 out of 234 assembly seats. Falling 10 seats short of the 118 needed for a majority, the party will require support from allies to form the government. Vijay is scheduled to meet with winning candidates to chart the party’s next steps.

Security has been intensified around Vijay’s Nilankarai residence and the Panaiyur headquarters, as large crowds gathered to welcome him. Supporters expressed optimism about TVK’s performance, describing the results as a “much-needed” change in the state’s political landscape.
