Mahendra played a crucial role in assisting the Forest Department in combating illegal logging and hunting in Similipal for several years.
Two years ago, he was transferred to the Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary in Angul for a brief period but was brought back to Similipal a few months ago.
Upon his return, Mahendra’s health began to deteriorate, and he had been under treatment ever since.
A veterinary team today reached Chahala to conduct an autopsy.
Following the procedure, Mahendra’s mortal remains will be respectfully cremated, as per the sanctuary’s protocol.
