He scored 498 runs for the Punjab Kings franchise, forcing his way back into national contention. His last appearance for the national T20 squad dates back to December 2023 against Australia.

Transitioning away from Suryakumar Yadav follows concerns regarding his individual batting form. Although he successfully led India to a T20 World Cup trophy defense earlier this year, his personal output dipped significantly. He managed only 242 runs across nine matches in that tournament and added just 270 runs during his subsequent domestic season with Mumbai Indians.
