Udala, May 4: A tragic accident claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy in Jagannathi village under Udala police station limits in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Satya Murmu. Reports indicate that Satya was playing on a makeshift swing, fashioned from an old saree and tied to a branch of a sugar-apple tree near his home. While his family members were occupied with household chores, the boy’s neck accidentally became entangled in the swing, leading to strangulation.
The incident came to light only after a family member noticed Satya in distress and alerted others. He was immediately rushed to Udala hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Udala police have reached the village and initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, with residents mourning the untimely loss of the young boy. Authorities have urged parents and caregivers to exercise caution and supervise children closely, especially when playing with swings or other makeshift equipment at home.
