Santiago Martin family secures historic triple victory across three parties

Three Martin family members win seats under different banners.

Election results for 2026 have delivered an unprecedented winning streak for the family of lottery tycoon Santiago Martin. Three immediate relatives of the businessman secured victories while representing entirely different political ideologies across Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. This strategic distribution across the political spectrum has ensured the family maintains significant influence regardless of which major party holds power.

Success in Tamil Nadu

Leema Rose Martin, wife of Santiago Martin, emerged victorious in the Lalgudi constituency. Contesting on an AIADMK ticket, she managed to flip a traditional DMK stronghold. Her campaign focused on local development, helping her secure the seat with a margin of nearly 2,739 votes. Her win marks a significant shift in central Tamil Nadu politics, where the AIADMK has struggled for decades.

Meanwhile, Aadhav Arjuna, the son-in-law of the lottery king, secured a dominant win in Villivakkam. Serving as a key strategist and General Secretary for actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Arjuna won by over 17,000 votes. His victory highlights the rising influence of new political entrants in the state's urban pockets.

Puducherry Breakthrough

Jose Charles Martin, the elder son, expanded the family's footprint into Puducherry. Leading his own outfit, the Latchiya Jananayaka Katchi (LJK), he allied with the AINRC-BJP combine. He successfully captured the Kamaraj Nagar seat with a margin exceeding 10,000 votes.

Santiago Martin's rise began in Coimbatore during the late 1980s, eventually building a business empire that became the largest purchaser of electoral bonds in India. This move into direct electoral politics reflects a transition from being a financier to becoming active lawmakers. Winning under the AIADMK, TVK, and an NDA-aligned party proves a calculated approach to political longevity. By placing family members in competing camps, the Martin group has effectively insulated its business interests against shifting political tides
