Bhubaneshwar, Feb 9: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been observing Financial Literacy Week (FLW) every year since 2016 with the objective of promoting financial awareness among the public on key aspects of banking and finance.
In this series, Financial Literacy Week 2026 is being celebrated from February 09 to February 13, 2026, marking the eleventh edition of this nationwide campaign.
The theme of Financial Literacy Week 2026 is “KYC – First Step towards Safe Banking”. The sub-themes for this year include “Basics of Know Your Customer (KYC)”, “Central KYC Registry (CKYC)”, and “Account Hygiene and Discipline”. As part of the campaign, RBI is conducting a focused media outreach through leading television channels, radio stations, and social media platforms to disseminate key messages related to safe and responsible banking practices.
The Financial Literacy Week 2026 was inaugurated by RBI Bhubaneswar on February 09, 2026. Dr. Sarada Prasan Mohanty, Regional Director, RBI Bhubaneswar, delivered the keynote address on the occasion. In his address, he emphasized the importance of financial literacy for all sections of society and highlighted the need for timely updating of KYC details in bank deposit accounts to ensure secure banking transactions.
Sanjeev Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Odisha, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by Vinod Kumar Arya, Chief General Manager, NABARD, and Anita Patnaik, General Manager, Reserve Bank of India.
The program witnessed the participation of the Banking Ombudsman, Reserve Bank of India, officials from DIF, Finance Department, Government of Odisha, and senior officers from RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, and NHB. Controlling heads of various banks and representatives from diverse target groups, including self-help groups, students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and senior citizens, were also present.
As part of the awareness activities, a street play (Nukkad Natak) on financial literacy was performed by the staff of Reserve Bank of India, Bhubaneswar, effectively highlighting the theme and sub-themes of Financial Literacy Week 2026 and reinforcing key messages on safe banking practices.
