Odisha Mining Corporation initiates aggressive growth strategy for sustainability.
Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) Managing Director Sudhansu Mohan Samal recently directed a major operational overhaul at the Kaliapani Chrome Zone to prioritize resource efficiency and environmental safety. During his high-level inspection of the Sukrangi and South Kaliapani sites, the MD focused on stabilizing overburden dumps and upgrading haul roads. These structural improvements aim to eliminate safety hazards while smoothing out logistics for heavy machinery.
Modernizing Chrome Ore Processing
Productivity at the Chrome Ore Beneficiation (COB) plant will soon see a sharp rise following Samal's orders for a detailed capacity expansion blueprint. He urged technical teams to integrate sophisticated processing methods that extract higher value from raw minerals. By maximizing resource utilization, OMC intends to minimize waste and ensure every metric ton of ore contributes to the state’s economic goals.
Strategic Integration of Ferrochrome Units
Future growth for the Ferrochrome Plant now hinges on a sophisticated blending strategy. By mixing ores from the Bangur and South Kaliapani mines, the corporation expects to optimize input quality and lower production costs. Samal reviewed previous fiscal performance and insisted on a strict timeline for plant modernization to maintain a competitive edge in the global metallurgical market.
Regional Importance
Odisha holds over 95% of India's chromite resources, making the Kaliapani region the undisputed backbone of the nation's stainless steel industry. This strategic roadmap ensures that OMC leverages this near-monopoly responsibly. By combining scientific interventions with ecological safeguards, the state-owned miner seeks to balance industrial output with regional environmental health. Senior regional managers and head office executives joined the visit to begin immediate implementation of these directives.
