Odisha: Protesting doctors given ultimatum to end strike

Bhubaneswar, July 3: The Baleshwar Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) on Friday served a 12-hour ultimatum to the protesting doctors to end the strike else face disciplinary action.

The Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) is on a strike since Wednesday launched a statewide protest seeking fulfillment of its 10-point charter of demands.

The appeal comes as the strike entered its third day with protesting doctors showing no signs of relenting even as patients continued to suffer.

In a letter to the wrote to all the DMO (MS)-cum-Superintendent, Balasore and Superintendents of Nilgiri SDH and all the CHCs in the district, the CDMO urged the fellow doctors to report for duty as soon as possible.

“I am directed to request all the OMHS cadre doctors and other doctors participating in the strike called by OMSA, to report for duty within 12 horus and withdraw from the strike to avoid any disciplinary action by Government against the absentee doctors of different health institutions, as instructed,” wrote the Balasore CDMO.

“Hence, once again it is an appeal to our fellow dedicated doctors to report for duty as eary as possible,” the CDMO appealed.

The OMSA launched the protest on July 1 coninciding the National Doctors' Day, seeking implementation of the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) scheme as per the central pay structure from the date of eligibility, proportionate cadre restructuring, incremental incentives for super specialty, specialists, diploma holders and administrators, postmortem allowance, implementation of three-year exist policy in KBK and TSP areas, construction of Capital Hospital-II in Bhubaneswar, strengthening of safety and security measures including revision of Odisha Medicare Act, regularisation of ad-hoc doctors and provision of comprehensive health insurance for all healthcare personnel.

Earlier, protesting doctors under the aegis of OMSA also demanded the formation of a high-level committee, headed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, to look into their demands.
