Bhubaneswar, August 5: In a significant step toward strengthening cancer care, the Odisha government has included91 additional treatment packagesunder theMukhyamantri Cancer Care Abhiyan (Chief Minister's Cancer Care Campaign) as state-specific packages in the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)–Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY)treatment package master. This will enable eligible beneficiaries in Odisha to receive timely, high-quality cancer treatment under the scheme.

It may be recalled that the integrated Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana was launched in Odisha on April 11, 2025, with a total of2,163 treatment packages. Cancer, being a life-threatening disease, can be effectively managed if diagnosed and treated at an early stage. Since cancer treatment involves complex, multidisciplinary care, the Odisha government launched the Mukhyamantri Cancer Care Abhiyan on the recommendation of experts to treat various types of cancer, allocating approximately Rs 311 crore for the initiative.

Now, following the Chief Minister's efforts and with the approval of the National Health Authority (NHA),91 cancer treatment packages under the campaign have been incorporated into the AB PM-JAY–GJAY package master as state-specific packages. All empanelled hospitals have been instructed to provide cashless treatment under these newly added packages.

With the inclusion of these packages, the number of cancer treatment packages has increased to 545, while the total number of treatment packages under the integrated scheme has risen to 2,254.

The state-specific packages are already benefiting patients across Odisha by providing access to quality cashless treatment.

One such beneficiary is Aryabhanu Mohanty, a 32-year-old resident of Kuakhia in Jajpur district, who has been successfully treated for testicular cancer under the new package. He recently underwent successful surgery at Bagchi Sri Shankara Hospital, Bhubaneswar, and is recovering well.

Similarly,​​​​​​Jyotsnarani Mohanty, a 62-year-old resident of Jagannathpur in Bhadrak municipality, successfully underwent surgery for uterine cancer. She is expected to be discharged from the hospital within the next two days.

Having received timely, cashless super-speciality treatment, Jyotsnarani MohantyandAryabhanu Mohantyexpressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling for making the treatment possible.
