Odisha: Industry Minister Reviews World Skill Center's Activities Calls for Expansion and Industry-Linked Training

Bhubaneswar, May 14:  Odisha Minister for Skill Development & Technical Education and Industries, Sampad Chandra Swain, reviewed the progress and future plans of the World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar, during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday

Since its inception, WSC has established itself as a flagship skilling institution in the State, having trained over 9,000 candidates. The Center boasts an outstanding placement record, with more than 99% of trainees successfully placed, including 251 in international roles, with leading companies such as Tata Group, Hitachi, Wipro, Emrill, and EFS.

In addition, WSC has trained over 4,000 faculty members through its Training of Trainers programs and set up Centers of Excellence in advanced fields, including Industrial Automation, Advanced Welding, and Smart Manufacturing.

​​​​​​​Commending WSC’s achievements, Minister Swain outlined a forward-looking roadmap to enhance its impact. He emphasized maximizing infrastructure utilization, increasing student intake, expanding short-term industry-focused programs, and introducing specialized skill areas such as underwater and pipe welding.

“World Skill Center has laid a solid foundation for advanced skilling in Odisha. Our next step is to expand its reach by leveraging infrastructure, strengthening industry partnerships, and aligning institutions statewide. The goal is to prepare Odisha’s youth not just for domestic opportunities, but also for global platforms like WorldSkills,” he stated. The Minister also called for deeper collaboration among government institutions, private ITIs, and polytechnics.

The meeting was attended by Shri Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Department; Shri Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, CEO, WSC; Shri Pinaki Pattnaik, COO, WSC; Dr. Subhanga Kishore Das, Principal, WSC; and other senior officials.
