Odisha Govt suspends Rural Employment Works for 60 days during peak farming season

Bhubaneswar, June 26 : To address the shortage of agricultural labour during the peak cultivation season, the Odisha government has imposed a 60-day suspension on works under the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Grameen) Act, 2025 (VBG-RAMG). The decision aims to ensure the availability of rural workers for agricultural activities.

The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department has issued a notification directing that no new works under the scheme will be taken up, nor will any ongoing works continue during the notified peak farming period.

According to the notification, district and block-wise peak agricultural seasons have been identified, and separate 60-day restriction periods have been fixed based on local cropping patterns. During this period, rural labourers are expected to participate in farming activities, thereby helping address labour shortages in the agriculture sector.

The government has released a block-wise schedule covering all 30 districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal and other districts.

The Panchayati Raj Department has directed scheme to strictly enforce the order. It has categorically instructed that no work under the scheme should be initiated or continued during the notified 60-day peak farming period.
