Bhubaneswar, June 17: Bhubaneswar Police have on Wednesday arrested Lakshman Hembram, an Assistant Executive Engineer posted in Harichandanpur, Keonjhar, for allegedly forging the signature of Odisha Assembly Deputy Speaker Bhawani Shankar Bhoi and misusing a fake official letterhead to influence the government for his transfer postings.
According to police, the accused was brought to Bhubaneswar for interrogation. Another accused, Junior Engineer Monalisha Behera, is absconding, and a search operation is underway to trace her.
The case surfaced after the Personal Secretary to Deputy Speaker Bhoi lodged a complaint with the Capital Police, Bhubaneswar, alleging misuse of the Deputy Speaker’s name and circulation of forged official communications. The fake letter reportedly carried a forged signature of Bhawani Shankar Bhoi and was used to recommend transfers of government employees.
Capital Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine the full scope of the forgery network, including how the documents were prepared, circulated, and who else may be involved.
The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the BNS for forgery and cheating.
The investigation is underway.
