Bhubaneswar, July 1:The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Wednesday approved 12 significant proposals, including a landmark decision to provide free education to students from Kindergarten (KG) to Postgraduate (PG) level in the state.

Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Majhi said the BJP-led government is committed to ensuring accessible and affordable education for all. Under the new policy, students studying in government and government-aided educational institutions will not have to pay any admission fees.

The Chief Minister said the initiative will be implemented from the 2026–27 academic session and aims to reduce the financial burden on families while promoting higher enrolment and continuity in education.

This policy will not be implemented in the case of self-financing courses, he added

He expressed confidence that the free education policy would bring about a transformative change in Odisha's education sector, making quality education more accessible to students across the state.
