Angul, Ap 21: In a dramatic incident on Tuesday morning, a minor climbed a 100-foot Sacred Tree in Angul city, threatening to commit suicide over a love dispute. The incident attracted widespread attention and became a topic of local discussion.
The minor reportedly demanded to call his girlfriend. When she did not respond, he tied a towel around himself and threatened to end his life, keeping everyone at bay for nearly one and a half hours.
Authorities, including the fire brigade, local police, and Angul municipality team, arrived immeditely.
After persistent persuasion and counseling, the minor descended safely.
Earlier, the minor and his girlfriend had eloped but were rescued by the railway police and presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Angul. Following CWC directives, the boy was placed at Utkal Balashram in Amalapada, while the girl was taken to the Sakhi Counselling Center for her safety.
