Manipuri artistic expressions bridge cultural gaps at Dhauli
Bhubaneswar witnessed a profound cultural intersection as the Dhauli College of Art and Crafts hosted a specialized "Artist Meet" featuring acclaimed Manipuri creator Leishangthem Ishwor. This gathering served as a platform for Ishwor to present his latest works, which translate the complex social realities and personal hardships of the Manipuri people into visual narratives. Ramakrishna Vedala, Regional Secretary of the National Lalit Kala Akademi, attended as the chief guest to offer deep insights into the evolving landscape of Northeastern Indian aesthetics.
Dhauli has long stood as a global symbol of peace and artistic heritage in Odisha, making it a natural hub for such cross-border creative exchanges. International painter Dr. Panchanan Samal, the college principal, welcomed the visiting artist alongside veteran mentor Bijay Kumar Parida. Through a detailed presentation, Ishwor shared his creative evolution, using vibrant yet haunting imagery to depict contemporary events. His ability to capture raw human emotion left the audience deeply moved.
Educational Exchange and Honors
Students engaged directly with Iswar to learn about his technical approach and the philosophical roots of his style. This interaction provided budding artists with a rare look at how regional conflict and identity can be processed through professional fine arts. During the ceremony, the institution formally recognised both Ishwor and Anasua Ojha for their contributions to the field.
Collaborative Artistic Dialogue
Faculty members including Chandan Kumar Samal and Ramshankar Sahu led a technical discussion regarding the preservation of traditional motifs in modern painting. This event proved highly instructional for the student body, offering them a window into the professional life of a working artist.
