Puri, July 24: On the occasion of ongoing World Famous Ratha Yatra at Puri, Odisha -HDFC Bank Currency Chest , in collaboration with RBI Bhubaneswar, hosted Note and Coin Exchange Mela on the Grand Road in presence of RBI & HDFC Bank officials.
The camp was visited by DG Police and SP Puri during the Rath Yatra who appreciated the noble venture of the RBI and HDFC Bank.
Aligned with the annual Rath Yatra festival, the initiative aimed to provide thousands of pilgrims with fresh currency and easily manageable coin denominations.
The specially designed camp provided a convenient facility for local shopkeepers, servitors, and devotees to exchange soiled or mutilated bills for fresh notes, while also distributing fresh currency notes in various denominations.
Devotees and local vendors exchanged old currency for crisp notes in denominations of Rs. 100, Rs. 50, Rs. 20, and Rs. 10, alongside newly circulated coins (Rs. 20, Rs. 10, Rs. 5, Rs. 2, and Re. 1) to ease daily transactions during the festival rush.
A total of Rs 18 lakh of coins and LDNs distributed during a 2-day time while the facility aims higher exchanges during the Bahuda Yatra.
Apart from money exchange, under the guidance of RBI officials, the HDFC Bank utilized the event to educate the public on the various provisions for exchanging torn or soiled notes seamlessly at any bank branch, reinforcing consumer rights and financial literacy.
